Hate is a Strong Word
I normally would say that I had the pleasure of reading The Kid by Sapphire for the Blogher Book Club and reviewing it for their site. I would normally say how fun free books are and how much I love writing reviews and sharing them. But that's not how The Kid turned out. Take a minute and go here to read my review (I am really honored that my review was the first one they published for this book and one of two chosen as "featured" reviews) and if you are brave enough I'll ship you the book and you can make up your own mind about it. Just let me know if you think you can handle it. This book unsettled me so much that I felt it and thought about it for days after I finished reading it. It hurt me to read it, but I'm glad I did.

I highly respect you for finishing this book, because based on your review, it sounds like it would be impossible for me to read. Books get to me in a way that movies and TV don't. So, no thank you. Pass it on to someone else.
Great review - I would read it, simply because it's about something so real. Some people have lives filled with pain I can never imagine, so I am intrigued/albeit horrified. It's a wake-up call to some and their petty, baseless complaints - a conundrum we all fall prey to sometimes. On a semi-related note, I read Sula by Toni Morrison lately, and not that it's the same thing by any means, it was again something I thought about over and over. Mission accomplished by an accomplished writer, thank you for opening my eyes to another worthwhile read.
